The viennese artspace and urban initiative NeverAtHome and POUSH collaborate for the occasion of Vienna Art Week. This intervention will feature a performance by POUSH artist Félix Touzalin as well as a curator’s talk given by Yvannoé Kruger, Director of POUSH.

Félix Touzalin’s performance Ecstatic Measure explores the repetition of the same movement over a continuous duration of four hours. It unfolds to the music of Vexations by Erik Satie, a seminal work in music history, first performed in New York in the 1950s at the initiative of John Cage. The score, consisting of sixteen identical measures, is repeated 840 times, immersing the audience in an experience of expanded time and perception transformed through repetition. The performer’s body, dressed in black, is gradually wrapped in strips of aluminum. This intertwining of body and metal symbolizes the sensual bond that connects the performer to the music. The metallic cord evokes that of the piano (an instrument absent yet central to Vexations) and suggests an invisible presence guiding the performance.

Following Ecstatic Measure, Félix Touzalin takes the floor to comment on his performance. Continuing this, Yvannoé Kruger develops, during his Curator’s Talk, various avenues of reflection around the notions of repetition, self-denial, and the body pushed to its limits, to the point of exhaustion. For this, he will draw on Félix Touzalin's performance as well as examples of previous curatorial projects rooted in performance at POUSH and the Palais de Tokyo, such as Obstiné.e.s, which was activated under the Cupola in April 2024. Finally, Yvannoé Kruger will present POUSH through a series of artist videos introducing the project. In dialogue with NeverAtHome’s practice of transforming vacant buildings into temporary sites for artistic production and encounter, the conversation will explore the frameworks that foster exchange, collective creation, and shared learning.
