Georgian Banquets. June 30 2024.
Georgian Banquets offers a few hours' immersion in the Georgian art scene, while echoing its current political situation. Young people, who have taken to the streets since the announcement of the law on foreign agents, are mobilizing a desire, undoubtedly a fantasy, for Europe, even as the extreme right has been gaining ground since the recent elections. But there is more than one Europe, just as this projection mobilizes several desires. In a discussion bringing together political scientists, exhibition curators, journalists and artists, we'll take the pulse of these impulses and look back at the history of this country that fascinates so many.
In parallel, or even as a preamble, Georgian Banquets presents four films by artists and/or directors of Georgian origin. s of Georgian origin, whose works teleport us into another texture of reality: Some are wrapped in a surrealistic torpor (Nightvision by Andro Eradze and Kolga by Mikheil Kobakhidze), while others take us into an art of editing that reveals the art of dosage (Hail Medea by Sophio Medoidze) and the collection of family memories in 90s Georgia (Glasses Crack, Tablecloths Splinter by Ana Japaridze).
