The omnipresence of war and the rise of authoritarian regimes lead to human rights violations. Attacks on freedom of expression, creation and artistic dissemination affect the whole world, depriving it of its pluralism and undermining the well-being of individuals and societies. The number of artists threatened and persecuted in their own countries, and forced into exile, continues to grow. Self-publishing, creating coded languages and means of expression to circumvent the forbidden or the unspeakable: artists testify to their experiences of censorship. Banned or intimidated from expressing themselves, censored without their knowledge or for reasons of integration into their host country, artists are exposed to censorship throughout their careers.

What censorship mechanisms are at work today and what will artists face tomorrow? These and other questions will be the starting point for discussions in the exhibition space about the forms of censorship and the possibilities for resistance.
