Silence descends. Everything stands still in a soft light. Flickers of light seem to last forever, whether they emanate from silent paintings, or stagnate on the surface of a petrified model. A uniform grayness perpetuates itself, diluted in cherry or blackberry juice, or some other indelible berry, asserted in an ashy texture. A relative equivalence exists between all that arises, and all that has arisen.

Thus, two entities meet. We know very little about them; they have made sure about that. Recognition takes fascinating deviations here. Peter Marcasiano (1921-1984) painted stubbornly, in complete confidentiality. Two exceptions contradict the secret of his work, with the only exhibition in his lifetime in 1959 at Galerie Welz in Salzburg, and a reappearance in 2018 in Paris. Xolo Cuintle develops a four-handed produc tion, blending two personalities in one single signature. Without necessarily hiding who makes what, objects seem to lift themselves out of an ownerless magma.

Their freedom is raw. Without imposing upon themselves the obscenity of a spring that makes everything bloom, these artists share with us the joys of a time bordering on hibernation, of this moment that comes just before, just after, fiercely quiet. Everything is undeniably bursting with juices, with only one perspective: the solstice.
